REST and RDFa

I have been spending a lot of time looking at REST, it has been around for ages, but it took to finding the right article before I got it, now it seems so simple.

But REST is about Resources, I have yet to read people putting REST and RDF together. RDF allows things to be identified, and it identifies with a URL, which is the resource in RDF. Surely sparks should be flying.

But W3C brought out their article on how they think RDFa should be used in XHTML 2. I have seen so much on the web about HTML 5, but XHTML 2 barely gets a look in.

But then REST already seems to be being eclipsed by XMPP. This is the standard used for Instant Messaging, Jabber for instance. With XMPP connections can be reliably be maintained to thousands of browsers, and updated when something happens. COMET could be used to poll a server every ten minutes or so to notify the browser if something had changed, but with millions of users the servers soon start to groan under the load, and most of the time nothing has changed.
